A Mid-Week Escape to the Highlands with Forest Holidays

The last 12 months haven’t been the most gentle & come September my partner & I were in desperate need of a break; some time alone to relax & recharge before our wedding in September, so we booked into the Forest Holidays site at Ardgarten in the Scottish Highlands.

Unfortunately, we had to cancel our first trip due to our lil fur babby getting sick, but we rescheduled & last week we made the drive up to Argyll for a week of log cabins, hot tubs, & amazing views. We had an incredible time so I wanted to do a short (photo-heavy) write up, in case any of you were curious.

We chose a Forest Holidays site because it was the perfect low-key romantic setting for us to chill as a couple without the pressure & anxiety of going abroad, plus the Ardgarten site is only a couple of hours drive from Edinburgh meaning we could maximise our time away rather than wasting time travelling.

The setting is absolutely incredible, with some of the larger cabins facing directly on to the loch. Ours was a little further back but still with incredible views & although the weather was pretty rubbish when we arrived, it meant the mountains were covered in snow making it feel extra special.

Our cabin was spacious & homely, with a little log burner for when the nights got chilly, but the highlight has to be the personal hot tub on the deck which we happily hopped in & out of during our time there. We also splashed out & got the in-cabin spa treatment provided by the My Personal Sanctuary team – it wasn’t cheap but the therapists were so professional & by the end of my full-body massage & facial I felt more relaxed than I have in months.

We’re not super adventurous so spent most of our time curled up on the sofa, but there are plenty of activities if that’s more your style & the scenery is so stunning that even a short drive into the hills is rewarded with beautifully wild views. We did head up to Oban on our last day for some fantastic fish & chips plus a quick visit to the Sea Life Sanctuary – it wasn’t anything special but seeing their rescue seals was sweet.

If you’re looking for a short break where you can totally switch off then I honestly can’t recommend Forest Holidays enough – we’re already thinking about our next visit.
