Making Maxi Dresses Work for Petite Plus Size Bodies

I’m currently completely obsessed with midi & maxi dresses. After years of avoiding them due to being both petite & plus size, I’ve now embraced them so today I wanted to share some of my top styling tips for making them work, whether you’re looking for a casual weekend outfit, polished workwear, or a hot date night look.

1 // Casual Weekend

I spend most weekends either relaxing at home or running errands so I want outfits that are quick to throw on & super comfortable. A shirt dress paired with an oversized sweater & chunky boots covers all bases.

This grey check dress from Daisy Street (available at ASOS) is more of a midi length but still looks smart enough for weekend brunches & pub lunches, & because it’s 100% cotton it’s super comfortable. For an edgier look you could easily wear this over ripped jeans & a white cami top, either left open or tied at the waist with a dramatic bow.

2 // Polished Workwear

I’ve been obsessed with this Navabi dress for months so when it finally dropped into the sale I was all over it.

The beautiful print combined with the synthetic fabric which drapes perfectly while still being completely opaque make this perfect for when you want to look polished & professional. I work in quite an informal office so usually pair it with a black bomber jacket & chunky boots but you could easily dress it up more with a pair of heels & a blazer.

3 // Hot Date Night

A shirt dress might not stand out as a natural date night look, but this piece from ASOS with its super high side slit & tie waist is perfect, especially when paired with a pair of heels & this banging bra from Figleaves’ curve range.

I love that this dress is a little longer too, making it feel a little more formal, even despite the relaxed stripe pattern.
