I’ve had my eye on the Illasmasqua Beyond Powder highlighter in OMG (£32) ever since it was released, but as a girl with 4+ highlighters on the go at any given time I just couldn’t justify the cost. Then came the perfect storm: I began to hit major pan on my beloved Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone & the Black Friday sales knocked the Beyond Powders down to a more justifiable £28, so I went for it & haven’t looked back since.
The packaging is classic Illamasqua, with those concave sides making it beautiful but a nightmare to store. I was slightly taken aback by quite how large the product (I posted a photo of me holding it on Twitter) & honestly it feels a bit excessive considering the fact that you’re not actually getting less product than you would in most other highlighters. On the bright side, the size does make the compact less fiddly to open than the Illamasqua shadows I own & the domed shape of the highlighter itself is beautiful.
When I first swatched it, I was a little bit disappointed by the pigmentation – as you can see above, the effect is very subtle & nowhere near as bold as I’m used to. The colour is beautiful though, with an almost duochrome champagne to gold shift when viewed from different angles, which makes it feel more natural than a straight up shimmer shade.
I was also impressed with the texture of the powder; it’s silky smooth & a dream to blend out meaning that you can easily build it up without worrying about it looking powdery or patchy.
On the face is where OMG really won me over. What seemed subtle when swatched transformed into the most stunning lit from within glow, & it perfectly treads the line between being too shimmery & too metallic. If I was going out I’d probably layer OMG with something bolder to give it a real pop but for everyday wear it’s perfect, & I’m even tempted to pick up the shade Epic to use as a bronzer in Summer.
Have you tried the Illamasqua Beyond Powders? Have I convinced you to give them a go? Let me know in the comments.
