I don’t subscribe to rules around matching your makeup to the seasons but my tastes definitely change as the weather gets cooler & the leaves start turning. Today I wanted to share with you some of my favourite beauty picks for Autumn – let me know yours in the comments below.
In the Spring I love candy pink & coral blushes, in Summer I prefer apricot & bronze tones, but in Autumn & Winter I’m all about berry shades. This Ambient Lighting Blush in Mood Exposure is the perfect blend of a deep plum blush marbled with Hourglass’ Ambient Lighting Powder in Mood Exposure which lifts & brightens the complexion.
This is the first Summer that I’ve really embraced glowy skin (& it was liberating as hell) but now the weather’s getting cooler I’m reverting back to my matte ways. I’m still loving the Too Faced Born This Way foundation but I’ve started using the Coty Airspun Loose Face Powder on the recommendation of Alexandra from Learning To Be Fearless. It’s super talc-y which I know isn’t for everyone but it feels silky soft & I’m loving using a loose powder (I’ve been using the Rimmel pressed Stay Matte powder since I can remember).
During the Summer I’m normally so warm that I want to apply my makeup in as little time as possible so I generally stick to liquid liner & mascara on my eyes, but as the weather gets cooler I always find myself getting back into eyeshadow, & this palette from Zoeva is one of my favourites. The En Taupe palette is a beautiful collection of predominantly cool-toned neutral shadows in both matte & shimmer finishes. You can easily mix & match the shades to create both everyday & more dramatic eye-looks, & I love that it has a deep burgundy colour in place of the traditional matte black shadow that so many palettes feature.
Speaking of liquid liner, I recently got given this Topshop Magic Liner in Engraved by my work BFF Meg who had got it for free with her latest order but wasn’t a fan, & I’ve been pretty impressed. It’s surprisingly pigmented & the tip is tapered yet firm, just how I like it (#filthy). It’s also relatively long-lasting & doesn’t smudge, although the pigmentation is quite as full as I would like – a great budget option though.
I’m definitely not one of those people who believe you can’t wear dark lipstick until Autumn (if you’re unsure check out Candice rocking NARS Volga Pure Matte lipstick at the height of Summer on GBBO) but I recently picked up this NYX matte lipstick in Siren on a whim & I haven’t stopped wearing it since. It a beautiful shade & surprisingly long-wearing for a high-street brand – I’ve even had people mistake it for a MAC lipstick so you know it’s gotta be good.
Despite having embraced Autumn when it comes to my makeup, my wardrobe still hasn’t quite caught up so stay tuned for some outfit posts featuring me desperately trying to avoid wearing a coat.
